Create a Character Dissidia Edition – Vol.01 : Edward “Edge” Geraldine

I love the Dissidia games immensely, especially the second one, Dissidia 012 Duodecim. So, as you can guess, I want to contribute to the game and its community and try and “create” a new character for it. For this instalment, I give you the Ninja Prince from Final Fantasy IV, Edge.

Edward “Edge” Geraldine

– Description :

– Story and Character :

The Ninja Prince of Eblan. Outwards a shady and brash character with a big ego, he is extremely kind, hotblooded, headstrong and has a strong sense of justice. He will defend his friends and people no matter the price…and is pretty flirtatious with women. His mannerisms are a bit extravagant but his heart is in the right place. Voiced by Ishimaru Hiroya in japanese and by Taliesin Jaffe in english.

His manikin counterpart is called “Hollow Ninja” and is a dark ruby colour.

– Costumes :

[Normal costume] His normal costume.

[Alternative costume # 1] Edge loses his mask and gauntles, his cape is replaced by a red twintailed scarf, the Fire Scarf, he gains a bit more armour and his clothing becomes ebony and crimson in colour. Due to losing his gauntlets, his hands are exposed. The weapons are also shown hanging from his back(previously not shown because of the cape) : a pair of tachi, two demon star shaped knives and a ninja sword.

[Alternative costume # 2] His Final Fantasy IV : The After Years costume.

– Battle Style :

Edge’s fighting style is called Super Ninja. Edge is a very quick and powerful character that focuses on a variety of ever-changing,swift combos. He is made with a mixed playstyle of Ryu Hayabusha and Joe Musashi / Hotsuma in mind. Even though he has low defence, he makes up for it by being agile and very strong. He mainly uses critical strikes and his Ex-force generation is the lowest out of all.

An add-on for the dodging abilities in the game,for Edge only. The effect is that Edge dodges faster, recovers faster and has a bit more time of invisibillity compared to the other players[roughly a second more of invinsibillity frames]. The animations of the dodging maneuvres change to a godspeed flash that leaves behind a mirage duplicate of Edge.

[Tiger’s Slash]

A quick 4-hit slash with good attack power. The first slash makes Edge move a little towards his opponent but not much, covering some very small distance. It has however excellent horizontal and vertical tracking. The hits can be pretty quick but the button presses can make them slightly slower.

The final hit of the attack will depend on whether the player will input a directional input along with the fourth and final button press. Should the final button press doesn’t have any directional input, Edge will simply do a slash with a Wall Rush effect. If the player inputs a “towards the enemy” directional input, Edge will phaze through the opponent with a phazing slash. If the player inputs an “away from the enemy” directional input, Edge will do a rising slash that will launch both him and the enemy up in the air. If the player inputs a “sideways of the enemy” directional input, Edge will do a diagonal dodging slash to either the left or the right side of the opponent, depending on the side the player chose.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Master of Ninja Arts] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

[Bear Barrage]

A series of physical attacks, mainly punches and kicks that reflect one’s mastery over martial arts and normally consists of swift 8 hits. The first hit makes Edge move very little towards his opponent,covering some very small distance. It has however excellent horizontal and vertical tracking. The attack can be delayed at ay point to branch to a different attack. Depending on the next hit, the different delays will result in different attacks.

If the player delays the button press before a punch, then Edge will start throwing a flurry of punches that where the player can mash the button for more attacks, ending with an uppercut that launches the opponent in the air. If the player delays the button press before a kick, then Edge will start throwing a flurry of kicks that where the player can mash the button for more attacks, ending with a powerful kick that causes a Wall Rush. Depending on which hand was going to be used next before the button delay, the hand used for the uppercut and the leg used for the kicks, will be different, resulting in two different animations for each occasion.

[Dragon’s Claws]

A powerful 5 hit combo using claw gauntlets. The 4rth hit is a cross slash hence hitting 5 times total. The first slash makes Edge move towards his opponent but not much,covering small distance. It has however excellent horizontal and vertical tracking. During the course of the attack, the player can input a directional command along with the BRAVE attack button to initiate different attacks that can cancel out the combo.

If the player inputs a “towards the enemy” directional input, Edge will perform a very fast rushing kick that will result in a Wall Rush. If the player inputs an “away from the enemy” directional input, Edge will do a sommersault slash that will launch the enemy up in the air. If the player inputs a “sideways of the enemy” directional input, Edge will do a series of light slashes in a zig-zag moving motion.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Master of Ninja Arts] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

[Lion’s Roar and the Falcon’s Cry]

Close range – Physical (Low / Mid)
CP – 40 / 20 (Mastered)

A 4 hit combo of martial arts and the sword that has good horizontal and vertical tracking and covers slightly more distance than the previous ground attacks. It’s a really basic combo with it’s only property being that it’s designed to break the basic guards when the sword attacks of the combo are used.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Master of Ninja Arts] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

Air :

[Hawk Dive]

Mid range – Physical (Low)

A swift dive kick to sommersault-in-the-air combo, with the sommersault initiating a Chase sequence. The dive kick can track excellently both vertically and horrizontally but the angle and distance that Edge covers with the attack are very strict, with them being just a tad further than Tiffa’s Falcon’s Dive and always at a 45 degree angle.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Dance of the Stars] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack has to be initiated after the dive kick part.

[Dropping Moon]

Mid range – Physical (Mid)
CP – 40 / 20 (Mastered)
AP – 200
Level Learnt – 12
A single sword stab from above with good speed and good horizontal and vertical tracking. The stab is somewhat controllable and can be cancelled any time.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Dance of the Stars] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

[Rising Sun]

Close range – Physical (Low)
CP – 40 / 20 (Mastered)
AP – 200
Level Learnt – 38
Edge kicks the opponent and follows in the air while delivering some light attacks. Upon the final hit a Chase sequence is initiated. The range is short but the tracking is omnidirectionally excellent.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Dance of the Stars] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

[Soaring Strike]

Close range – Physical (Low)

Edge quick draws his sword. It can be done twice in quick succession, but the second time a Chase sequence is initiated. The range is very short but has good horizontal and vertical tracking.

It can be chained to the HP attack [Dance of the Stars] via BRAVE-HP chain. The attack can be initiated during any of the button presses before the final brave attack input.

[Blitz]

By throwing a knife at the opponent’s shadow you paralize him or her for some time,followed by a rain of knives. Press twice for effect.

The attack has excellent horizontal and vertical tracking and comes out much faster than his normal moves and can still be used while the opponent is airbourne but Edge will throw his knife at the enemy for the attack to connect instead of the shadow. The second hit of the move has Wall Rush potential.

Edge glows with a red aura and his wepons now shine when drawn. While Mutsu-No-Kami (Final Fantasy IV version) shines in a radiant glow, Sasuke’s Katana (Final Fantasy IV version) shines crimson-black when striking the opponent and shines normally if it doesn’t make contact with the opponent.

EX Burst : Ultimate Ninja Art!Advent of the Phoenix [Enter commands simultaneously]

Edge throws 8 knives at his opponent’s shadow and starts casting his ninja arts. Time freezes and the player must press the correct combo that appears on the screen(4 d-pad inputs, followed by 4 button inputs), in 10 seconds. If the player performs the combo, Edge rushes towards his opponent landing furious strikes and combos with all his weapons stirking a total of 16 times. Then Edge jumps and cloaks himself in flames that resemble a giant phoenix, that proceeds to destroy the opponent by ramming him or her. After the phoenix runs throught the enemy, it disperses and leaves Edge behind, crouching, having done a cross-slash. If the player fails, Edge will do the same but end it with Mutsu-No-Kami and Sasuke’s Katana start glowing with the colours of the 4 elements and Edge cross-slashes the opponent causing the last 2 blows to land and deal the damage.
